Artist Highlight

Niall Mathieson is recognized as one of Georgia’s most successful wood artisans.
Originally from England, he moved to Georgia, via Canada over 28 years ago.  He fell in love with the small city of Barnesville ,Ga. and has called it “home” ever since.  He even believes that, someday, he will succeed in acquiring that wonderful southern drawl.
Niall retired from business in 2008 and decided to start a hobby of wood turning. It quickly became a passion,where he was able to use both his creativity and engineering background to turn a “burl” into a beautiful “work of art”. In the last 6 years he has made a name for himself turning very large pieces and has succeeded in winning successive “best of show” and “people’s choice” awards in local and state shows.
