Michael Lewis and Jane Lewis live and maintain their studio in Plant City, Florida near Tampa. It is here at Easy Street Studios that they work together on many ideas and collaborate on various projects. These have included paintings, sculpture, pottery and graphic design. Their work is the reflection of the spirit within us all. “We feel strongly about the importance in our lives of objects that speak to us, inspire, excite, or in some way enrich us. It is this level of communication that we aspire to in our work.” Winning many awards and critical acclaim, their work is collected internationally. Corporate and private collections include: The White House, Sun Bank, Walt Disney World, All Childrens Hospital, UNICEF, Spelman College, Ikon Office Solutions, Milwaukee Art Museum, The National Childrens Trust Fund, and MacGraw Hill Publishing.
The Process: Our current work is fiber and mixed media. Using gutta resist, the images are drawn on white silk and hand painted with dyes. The silk is then steamed to permanently set the dyes. The silk is mounted on acid free paper, cut and assembled in the bas-relief format, making our work unique. Many of the pieces are then embellished with wire, glass, stones and found objects. Matting and framing completes the image, all of which is done in our studio. The frames are oak and ash, some handpainted by us.
