Jan Lewis is an artist living and working in Grand Junction, Colorado. She began art training at Georgia State University and later applied her creative talents to rehabilitation, earning a BS in Occupational Therapy from Georgia Regents University. She continued her education earning a MA from Adams State University. Jan has and continues to explore a variety of art mediums, the last 5 years focusing on pastels. She experiments with the interplay of pastels with a variety of surfaces to create images both impressionist and realistic. She gains inspiration from the landscapes of the west as well as beaches on both coasts. She has recently been exploring historical themes taken from old family photos, particularly those taken in the 1930s and 1940s. Her subjects are as diverse as a wild Mexican dog to a unknown boy sitting on the curb playing a video game, but the unifying theme behind them is the place in nature they occupy. Jan debuted her recent work at the Redstone Art Foundation's 19th Annual Labor Day Weekend Art Show 2014. Her work entitled, "Eye of God, Monument Valley", was featured on the front page of the Aspen Times Labor Day weekend edition. A Georgia native, Jan has lived in Colorado for 30 years .
