Gabriela Esquivel was born in 1981 in San Jose, Costa Rica. She has lived and studied in various countries including Germany, Switzerland, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico and United States. She obtained a Bachelor of Art with minors in Motion Pictures & Fashion Design from the School of Fine Arts of Puerto Rico and a Bachelor in Humanistic Studies with emphasis in Music from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico. Her artistic works include acrylic paintings, videos, animations and piano compositions. 

In October 2015 she was selected to participate in the X Florence Biennale, Italy and Spectrum Art Fair during Art Basel Week, Miami. She has been selected once again to participate in the XI Florence Biennale in 2017. She has participated in group exhibitions  and events at Botello Gallery in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico; Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico; Casa Real Gallery in Costa Rica; Rancho Santana Gallery in Nicaragua, Interamerican University of Puerto Rico and the School of Fine Arts of Puerto Rico. 

Her contemporary work is inspired in mystical themes, the search of the sublime, and the connection with the spiritual worlds.  Her work has influences of surrealism, abstract expressionism and color field painting. Her musical studies are reflected in some of her works.
