Artist Highlight

"I want to convey my work as an expression of color and energy. It isn't about the details. When I had a brush in my hand, the instinct was to paint every detail. The finger painting has both liberated and challenged me to find a way to tell the story with color and texture, movement and repetition. I use graphite, pastes and gels, along with an occasional palette knife to create my work. I believe it has taken an intuitive turn and I'm encouraged by this path.  

My process begins with a thought~ out plan; layers upon layers of paint mixed with gels and fiber pastes to give the piece substance and textures. In some of my works, you'll see circles embedded in the canvas. This is a "hello" to my mother, artist Nancy Hunt. Many years ago she gave me small jars of paint that I've kept and treasured all these years. I press the caps into the paint to create an abstract element within the piece that forever expresses my gratitude to her for teaching me how to see the world through artful eyes.

I choose to paint almost every day, because not to paint would seem unnatural. To that end, I am in my studio painting or participating in several art fairs each year, and doing art demos for art leagues around the area. More about my art fairs and demos on my events page".
